You’re in the mood for a different kind of night. Not your regular vodka-infused top 40 club scene. Tonight you’re looking for something to transport you, something to take you on a musical journey of a non-linear kind.
Welcome to the music of Jalebee Cartel. The band that’s single-handedly putting India on the EDM (Electronic Dance Music) map.
Electronica not your thing? Don’t fret. Because the truth is, Jalebee Cartel can’t be pigeon-holed. They believe in evolving with every gig, and have done precisely that. Their 2009 album, One Point Nothing, though a solid dance album, is a reflection of their more artistic side and includes chill tracks with rich, deep melodies throughout. Fans say it signifies the band’s evolution into more mature and intelligent artists.
And just who are these artists? Arjun, G-Force, Ash and Ashvin – 4 guys from different parts of India who came together in 2004 simply to do more of what they love – make music. Like true leaders of any movement, they don’t just talk, they do. Playing live sets, dj’ing, producing, and composing, the multi-talented group does it all. And we’re digging it all. But we’re most enamored with their live act which features Jalebee’s own compositions. Here they let loose, mixing influences from techno to house, overlaid with live vocal harmonies, percussions, drums and tablas. They fuse genres to create a raw, electric style of urban dance music, getting global recognition along the way.
They recently took this act on the road, playing a fierce tour schedule including a gig at their favorite venue, Paradiso (Amsterdam), a massive club that boasts previous performances by the likes of the Rolling Stones, Depeche Mode, Pink Floyd, and U2.
2010 has been good to Jalebee Cartel. In addition to Paradiso, playing in multiple gigs in Germany, and at major dance festivals in the world, they’ve had 4 songs hit the coveted Beatport Charts (Beatport charts are to dance music what billboard charts are to pop.)
So while we get that EDM may not be your thing, we also know you’re the open minded, cosmopolitan type. Have a listen and add a little variety to your global musical armada.
