Republic of Brown contributor Laura Silverman is a multi-culti brew of Western education and Eastern philosophy. After receiving an MA in Buddhism from Harvard University, she moved to Atlanta to translate Japanese comic strips. Then she dug deep into popular Western culture, as managing editor of Vibe and then Maxim. Her passion for the East was rekindled when she relocated to Mumbai to launch Vogue and GQ in India. Now she’s back West, working as a freelance writer and editor in Buffalo, NY, where she hopes to stay for a while.
