This one’s a personal post from me, Geetanjali, to you. I haven’t done this before, but the time felt right and sometimes you just have to go with your gut.
I’ve been doing a series of interviews lately about Republic of Brown and what I’m often asked is what motivated me to start this “Indo-cool” movement. This question has brought me back to one of my favorite inspirational quotes – one that I turn to again and again – Rumi’s “Let Yourself Be Silently Drawn By the Stronger Pull Of That Which You Really Love.”
These words are posted above my desk and are a source of strength and a reminder to myself of why I do what I do – I love it. The tediousness of the day-to-day can overshadow the big picture unless you look up and remember why you’re doing it in the first place.
I love creating a place for quality content, telling stories that people like and building a platform for artists to be seen and heard. I love making it look good and easy to use. And I always want to make it better.
In an interview today I was especially reminded of all this and it made me happy and re-energized. So I’m listening to that little voice within and sharing my joy with you.
In case you’re new to Rumi, he was one of the most influential Persian poets of the 13th century. His poetry also transcends his Persian roots and is recognized as both spiritual and beautiful writing by many people of many different religions throughout the rest of the world.
Some of my other favorite Rumi sayings:
“Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.”
“When you do things from your soul, you feel a river moving in you, a joy.”
“Dance, when you’re broken open. Dance, if you’ve torn the bandage off. Dance in the middle of the fighting. Dance in your blood. Dance when you’re perfectly free.”
“The wound is the place where the Light enters you.”
Live where you fear to live.
Destroy your reputation.
“Sell your cleverness and buy bewilderment.”
“Everything in the universe is within you. Ask all from yourself.”
Do you have a favorite inspirational quote? Those words that give you strength and guidance when you most need it. I think we all do – even a good “buck up” can work wonders (if delivered in just the right tone and with a good single malt.)
I’ll see how this goes and likely be sharing more with you on a regular basis – or when that little voice tells me to do so.
Thanks for reading and sharing if you’re so compelled. Be well, be kind and be good to yourself.
