We recently got a call from a friend who couldn’t stop laughing – from the comedy show she had watched the night before. Between giggles she went on to rave about this absolutely inappropriate and hell-of-funny one woman show she had seen the night before in NY. She promised, it wasn’t just she that was doubled over much of the show, but all of her friends were contorted as well.
That was our introduction to Radhika Vaz, the one woman behind the one woman show, Unladylike.
A brief summary of her show is below, but for those of you in NY this Thursday, June 16th you can see it for yourself. Details below.
We met Radhika in person in NY and even over coffee we found ourselves grinning from ear to ear. Divinely outrageous, she treads where many South Asian women dare not go. If you can’t make it to her show, check out her blog at http://radvazblog.com/
ABOUT THE SHOW:
Unladylike: The pitfalls of propriety.
Written and performed by Radhika Vaz, directed and developed by Brock Savage.
From Radhika: My one-woman show ‘Unladylike: The pitfalls of propriety’ debuted at the Producer’s Club in NYC in September 2010. It is a woman’sperspective on life, from adolescence to maturity. Written and performed by yours truly and directed by Brock Savage, it combines personal narrative storytelling with the more traditional comedic forms of stand-up and sketch. The material examines the universal truths of womanhood in tandem with the age-old double standards and gender inequalities that are often foisted upon us as children.
Dedicated to exploring and exposing the truths that most people think
but never say, ‘Unladylike’ is an intelligent, raunchy, and hilarious
joyride through the minefield of femininity.
So far the show has had the good fortune of being sold out at every
run. In addition to receiving great word-of-mouth within the Indian
Diaspora the show has had excellent reviews in the press
The next show is on June 16 @ 8pm in NY at The Producers Club (358 W 44th St, b/w 8th and 9th Ave) and tickets are available at www.unladylike.eventbrite.com
